a selection of fruit from very low yielding Carignan vines from some of our oldest vineyards on steep slopes. Aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels.

 

"vi de guarda", is the phrase used in the Priorat to describe wines which have been aged for at least 12 months in oak barrels.

Grape varieties: 100% Carinyena (Carignan)
Vineyards: This wine is made from specific vineyards, with the best grapes being selected every harvest from our own old Carinyena vines. These vines grow on shale slopes and have very low yields (300 grams/10 ounces per vine). Only the best years' production of old Carinyena grapes are used.

Vinification: 5,000-litre stainless steel containers with temperature control. Cold pre-maceration. Alcoholic fermentation at 28ºC. Maceration 25-30 days. Malolactic fermentation.

Barrels: 100% French, 1st year
Selection of barrels: after barrel-by-barrel tasting, barrels which do not reach the necessary levels of quality are separated out.
Alcohol content: 14%
